Greatest Serbian Leader and Hero

06 Jun

Srpski_Vojnik Feb. 1912 by Stefanovic

I have traveled to almost every corner of this great country. It amazes me to find such differing views in such a small place! Serbians are very open to me about their politics and their personal beliefs. I never judge anyone and usually just sit and listen. I am interested to get an idea of where my friends and followers stand.

Please vote on these two polls. I will study and read up on the winners and provide an interesting blog post about them. The “Serbian Hero” question was left with an option to add your own!

Thank you in advance!!! Please join our new Serbian website…… SAY SERBIA….. http://sayserbia.com/. We are trying to create a place to bring together Serbians, foreigners that are interested in Serbia, and create a place to find out about EVERYTHING Serbian! Feel free to click on a category and add your input, pictures, opinions, videos, etc.

Nice propaganda. But the facts are that Šešelj is a Serb and “Tito” (Walter Weiss) was a polish Jew.

I voted for Tito and Tesla. I’m glad you mentioned Tito. No matter that he was a Croat, in a way, he was the leader of Serbian people (including all the other nations of the former Yugoslavia). Many Serbs respect him because life was better during the time of communist Yugoslavia than today – in terms of living standards and wealth. That’s why he is so highly ranked on this scale. People are nostalgic. Today, we are poorer than we were in the era of Tito. We are poor because our economy has been ruined as a result of the wars (1991-2000), and the international isolation of that 10 years period.

Tesla is the greatest Serbian hero, there is no doubt about that.

I am an American, I can’t tell you who is best but I can tell you Dusan has my vote for the latter. My husband wanted to name our child Dusan if it had turned out to be a boy. I shed a tear when the sonogram tech told me it was a girl. I could just imagine how much fun kids would make of him if we were in the U. S. Dusan is a great strong name… but in The U.S.the poor kid undoubtedly would be named Douche bag for life! can’t wait to read the results. 🙂

Dušan (pronunciation: Dushan) is beautiful name. Serbian language: “duša” = English language: “soul.”

Emperor Dušan the Mighty Nemanjić of Serbia was Serbian most powerful ruler. He ruled Serbia 1331-1346 as King of Serbia, in year of 1346 Dusan proclaimed himself the first Emepror of Serbia. During his rule, Serbia was biggest in her long history, and Serbia at that time was one of most powerful countries in all of Europe. Emperor Dusan died in 1355, probably poisoned. His relics could be found in Church of saint Marcus in Belgrade. 🙂

His official title was – Emperor of Serbs and Greeks.

Dušan or Dushan name means (Dusha – soul) so it translates as “Soul-man”, it could also be translated as “good-man” or “Good-hearted man”.

      🙂

    Serbia has many heroes…
Major Gavrilovic will be remembered for his speech he gave to his soldiers – defenders of Belgrade in 07.10.1915. at 14:30 pm, just before the infantry charge in which he was heavily wounded: “Soldiers! Heroes! The supreme command has erased our regiment from its records. Our regiment has been sacrificed for the honor of Belgrade and the Fatherland. Therefore, YOU NO LONGER HAVE TO WORRY FOR YOUR LIFES – THEY DO NOT EXIST ANYMORE. SO,FORWARD TO GLORY!FOR KING AND HOMELAND!Long live the king! Long live Serbia!”

German commander Mackensen:„We fought against an army that we have heard about only in fairy tales…”

How come you have not mentioned Djordje Petrović(nickname: Karadjordje), Miloš Obrenović and Saint Sava on these polls? These three figures are very important to the Serbs.

I would add to 2-nd list: Vuk Karadžić, Milutin Milanković and Petar II Petrović Njigoš.

Today’s politicians (Kostunica, Tadić, Nikolić etc.) don’t deserve to be on the list because they are corrupt and incompetent.

People like Slobodan Milosević, Ratko Mladić, Radovan Karadžic and Vojislav Šešelj don’t deserve to be in the poll. Excessive nationalism isn’t good for the Serbian people.

Novak Djokovic cannot be a hero, he is just a sport’s man who plays for money. He is awesome tenis player. Heroes can be only those who are important for the nation or the world like scientists, soldiers, generals, presidents or kings.

Josip Broz Tito is not even a Serb. He created fake nationalities such as Macedonian or Montenegrin, those two People’s were Serbs before the world war 2, before TIto.

Tito created provinces Kosovo and Vojvodina, so those two could brake away from Serbia. He populated Albanians in Kosovo, and he forbade to Kosovo Serbs to return to their homes in Kosovo by law. Those Kosovo Serbs were driven out during world war 2 by Greater NAZI Albania during German occupation.

    Tito cannot be a hero.

I vote between King Peter I Karadjordjevic the Liberator, he liberated old Serbia in 1912/1913 and he defeated AustroHungarian empire 1914-1918.

And i vote for Supreme Commander Slobodan Milosevic, the president of Serbia and FR Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro). He defeated US/NATO imperialists in 1999. He alone fought without anyone’s help, even his Serbs were against him. We had factories, mines, jobs, free education and health care, even though we were under embargo imposed by imperialists.

lafemmet: wait until you get a boy (hope so you do) and you can name him Dusan. I must say, I’m surprised that you’ve thought to name you`re son Dusan 🙂

And as far as you`re concern of him being named Douche bag, dodn`t worry about it, only little minds whould do that 🙂

Slobodan Milosević in second place? That can’t be good. He didn’t deserve to be ranked so high. 😦

We thought that Serbia attacked because of him, and in fact they attacked him because of Serbia. It is from this time distance sees best.
Accuse him of crimes committed by NATO is the same as when you accuse European countries occupied during World War II for the failure that they committed the Wehrmacht.
Milosevic for 10 years is alive and NATO still killing and threatened throughout the world.

Ali svakako srpski, hrvatski i svaki drugi nacionalizam nisu ništa dobro doneli narodima zapadnog Balkana. Da smo imali neke malo liberalnije političare tokom osamdesetih i devedesetih, rata ne bi ni bilo. Trebali smo reformisati Jugoslaviju u neki oblik konfederacije tj. nešto u stilu balkanskog BENELUKSA. Danas ne bi bilo tolike mržnje. Sve republike i pokrajine bi bile mnogo razvijenije. Bili bi najrazvijeniji region istočne Evrope. Nažalost Srbi, Hrvati, Albanci, Bošnjaci itd, uvek stavljaju nacionalni interes (šta god to značilo) ispred zdravog razuma. Umesto da se razmišlja trezvenim glavama mi smo dopustili da nas obuzmu emocije i da nam nacionalni ponos previše ”udari” u glavu.

Tito’s fault-6 from Republic, only in Serbia created autonomous regions, and two AP AP Vojvodina and Kosovo and Metohija, which are in the collective management of Yugoslavia had the right to vote, as well as Serbia. Legal chaos. So to create a legal framework for the future distribution of Serbia during dismantling Yugoslavia. By the same token, if anywhere needed to make autonomous region in the six republics of the former Yugoslavia, it has to be done for the Serbs in Croatia and give them administrative and legal protection in the event of breaking up Yugoslavia, because they have gone through an unprecedented horrific genocide of Croatian Ustasha in Croatia! In Jasenovac were slaughtered 700,000 Serbs! (Proportional, given the actual strength of the Croatian and German people during World War II who was away at the side of the Germans, Serbs during World War II in “their” country called the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, suffered more than their “brothers” of Croats than the enemy Germans!). If Tito was a Croat, why after World War II did not go and kneel in Jasenovac, to do so in the name of the Croats and the Serbs officially apologize for the terrible genocide! So, to repeat, that the Republic of Croatia was created for AP Krajina Serbs, it would be a different story when breaking up Yugoslavia, starting 90 I remembered the last century.

cmiljenka and others who think the same about Vojvoduna, please! Saddly for you Tito didnt create AP Vojvodina. I really hate this subject, just about everybody have their versions of Vojvodina’s history, but the most common is that Tito created AP Vojvodina, but Tito wasn’t even born when the AP was created by Serbs (us), by people, by war!

      The History!
During the 1848-49 revolutions, Vojvodina was a site of war between Serbs and Hungarians, due to the opposite national conceptions of these two peoples. At the May Assembly in Sremski Karlovci (13–15 May 1848), Serbs declared the constitution of the Serbian Voivodship (Serbian Duchy), a Serbian autonomous region WITHIN (!!!) the Austrian Empire!

On 25 November 1918, the Assembly of Serbs, Bunjevci, and other nations of Vojvodina in Novi Sad proclaimed the unification of Vojvodina (Banat, Bačka and Baranja) with the Kingdom of Serbia.

I’ am a little suprised with the vote about a greatest Serbian leader, i’am agree whit a some opinions that there are much more and greater hero’s in Serbian history, like someone said Major Gavrilovic, but Aleksandar I Karadjordjevic is a greatest leader in Serbian history for sure, he was most respected Serb in Europe ever!!!! That he was alive little more longer, and if a western leaders had more courage, Hitler would be stopped much earlier..(I read a lot about this).. he was killed 5 years before Hitler attack Poland ’39..not only Italy nazis expected from ustase to kill him but a Germans too..king Aleksandar knew that a Germans feel embarrass for WWI..after the war, they were humiliated, not by all allies, but by the France – a lot..they had to work in France, Belgia, Netherland’s mines for nothing, had to pay war compensation, a biggest to France and Yugoslavia kingdom..In 1934, after the death of President Hindenburg, Adolf Hitler, already Chancellor, assumed the office of Presidency.. because of that Aleksandar was worried about a Hitler war propaganda..and in february ’34 proposed to Albert François Lebrun and France prime minister Édouard Daladier to attack Hitler immediately afraid of his revenge..but they did not seriously realize Hitler as a threat..should not forget that Aleksandar I Karadjordjevic was a commander of first army in Balkan wars and supreme commander in WWI, from 1914 till 1929, when officialy take a crown, he leading a country, never wearing a king civil clothes, but military always..his godfather was Russian imperator Nikolay II Aleksandrovic Romanov, who speaking that see in him one unusual intelligence and courage..,,,I’am sorry if i was a little boring, but i dont write english well, so i had to look on dictionary every second word 😀 and this stuff’s is not from internet..for more visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_I_of_Yugoslavia ..

Greetings to all from Sremska Mitrovica especially for you Charles!!!!!!

one more interesting is King Alexander had a large heraldic eagle tattooed over his chest, recalls the simbol of Roman Empire..
